The School has undertaken a project exploring the factors affecting scalability of women led micro-enterprises in Kerala. The ongoing project, funded by the National Commission for Women, New Delhi is being executed under the mentorship of Dr. Sangeetha K Prathap, Assistant Professor, SMS, CUSAT and her team of eminent co-investigators. Literature available on micro enterprises at the bottom of the pyramid, concentrates on aspects like microfinance, financial inclusion, poverty eradication, empowerment and enterprise formation and building. However, there are only limited studies that deal with problems of micro-enterprises at the bottom of the pyramid, particularly women enterprises. Though micro credit concept has taken off, micro enterprises are still struggling to gather the required momentum for sustenance. In this backdrop, it is pertinent to analyse the problems faced by the Kudumbasree micro enterprises in Kerala in scaling up their businesses. The study also offers need based solutions on the basis of identified problems.
