Brief Profile

Professor. Zakkariya K.A. is a transformational leader, gifted orator, and an inspiring teacher, well known for his institution building skills. He has 24 years of experience in teaching, research, training, administration and institution building.

Dr. Zakkariya has been instrumental in designing and executing two-year masters level vocational programme (M.Voc) in a university for the first time in the country by establishing DDU KAUSHAL KENDRA in Cochin University during the academic year 2015-16, as its founder Director, bringing UGC grant to the tune of 40 million rupees. It is under his initiative and leadership the “Centre for Employee Empowerment and Skill Acquisition (CEESA) - a specialised centre for training and development of university teachers and other staff – was established in CUSAT and he was the founder director of CEESA. His initiatives are in progress to establish a new centre “Center of Teaching Excellence (CTE)” in Cochin University as part of a European Union project in which 12 institutions from six countries are involved.

Prof. Zakkariya had been nominated thrice to the syndicate of Cochin University of Science and Technology by the Government of Kerala and he was the youngest ever member nominated to the syndicate, when he was nominated first time in 2003. He has also been elected to the senate of the University five times consecutively from the constituency of university teachers.

Prof. Zakkariya has published over 85 research articles in journals and edited books of national and international repute and has won best paper awards in different national and international conferences. Dr. Zakkariya has produced eleven PhDs and he is a reviewer of half a dozen leading international research journals. Being a member in the advisory committee or governing council, Dr. Zakkariya has been contributing to the development of many educational institutions in the state.

  • Significant Research and Consultancy undertaken

    Took the initiative and leading role for making Cochin University a Partner institution in a European Union Project lead by Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Poland. This one million Euro project under the scheme of Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) scheme of EU is intended to prepare curriculum for training teachers by establishing Centres of Teaching Excellence (CTE)in Asian Countries. 12 higher education institutions from six countries are partners in the project. CTE is established in CUSAT and in the process offering internationally accredited capacity building programmes.

    4. Won the Best Paper of the Track Award for the Paper titled “Nurturing Employee Intention-to- stay in Hospitality Sector: Effects of Spiritual Leadership, Interpersonal Justice and Voice Behaviour” in the track of Leadership presented at the Sixth Biennial Conference of the Indian Academy of Management held at Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappally, January 2nd to 4th, 2020.
    5. Won the Business Perspectives and Research (BPR) Journals Best Conference Paper award for a paper presented at the Sixth Biennial Conference of the Indian Academy of Management held at Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappally, January 2nd to 4th, 2020.
