LEARN FROM THE LEARNED LECTURE SERIES- B.R.MENON

Rear Admiral B R Menon, A mechanical engineer and an alumni of Royal Naval college U.K, a highly accomplished Defense and Diplomatic personnel, enlightened the students of SMS during the Learn from Learned lecture series, sharing his experience and knowledge from the leadership positions held in Indian Navy as well as his strategic advisory and diplomatic roles.

PMI ANNUAL CONFERENCE AT SMS

The School of Management Studies hosted the PMI Kerala Chapter's Annual Conference, WAVES 2023, a remarkable gathering that brought together over 600 project management professionals and industry leaders from across the country. This conference featured a diverse array of keynote sessions, engaging workshops as well as networking sessions with fellow project managers. The conference was themed "Harnessing Technology: Driving Transformation," and it focused on the latest trends and innovations in project management. A significant milestone during the conference was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between PMI Kerala Chapter and CUSAT -an alliance that will promote project management training and bridge the gap between industry and academia.

TALK BY EXPERT ON QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Dr. GK Nair, a distinguished ISO 9001/AS9100 implementation trainer and former Group Captain in the Indian Air Force, conducted an engaging session for MBA students at the School of Management Studies. With captivating insights into ISO's genesis, core standards, and real-life experiences, he transformed quality management principles into captivating lessons. Dr. Nair's class left students inspired, equipping them with practical knowledge essential for their future careers.

Seminar by RBI experts on Greener, Cleaner India

The NSS unit of CUSAT in association with SMS hosted an event that was graced by the presence of four distinguished economists from RBI, Dr. Harindra Behera and Dr. GV Nadhanel (Directors of DEPR, RBI central office); Ms. Sambhavi Dhingra and Mr. Shobhit Goel (DEPR RBI central office). The seminar mainly focused on human-induced climate change and its implications, the macro-economic implications of climate change in India, and addressed the challenges of balancing economic and environmental goals.

Women's Day-2023

On Women's Day, the School of Management Studies orchestrated a lively panel discussion on "Embracing Inclusivity" in the Hall of Fame. The esteemed panelists, including Ms. Neetha Mary James (Chief Subeditor, Malayala Manorama), Ms. Sulakshana Jojo (Program Manager, TCS) and Ms. Dipali Jose, (Head-Certification & Compliance, Geojit Securities) shed light on the dire need for gender inclusivity in modern society. The discussion centered on the importance of reimagining social norms to accommodate all genders and providing financial independence to women. The event was coordinated by faculty members - Dr. Smarty Mukundan and Dr. Fezeena Khadir.

Talk by Deputy Governer - RBI

Our eminent alumnus, Shri M. Rajeshwar Rao, Deputy Governor-Reserve Bank of India addressed the SMS family as part of the ‘Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series’ on 20th January 2023. He started a scholarly discourse on ‘India’s G20 Presidency: The Key Financial Sector Issues and Challenges’. He spoke extensively about the various practical dimensions of the G20 Presidency, Sustainable Development, and Green Finance.

International Womens Week

International Womens Week was celebrated in School of Management Studies with a flurry of activities, panel discussions and invited talks from women who have made their marks in society. In addition to the intellectual stimulation derived from the eminent resource persons, the fun element of the 5-day event was the Self-defence training for women offered by the Womens Cell of Kerala Police.

A session on Personal and Corporate etiquette was delivered for the students on January 12th, 2022. The resource person was Ms.Vishma Vivek, Global head–Talent Acquisition, Litmus7. In this very interactive session, she dwelt on the importance of personal grooming, verbal and non – verbal communication and the like in the corporate world through explicit examples.

Mr.Gopakumar, Chief Operating Officer-Bhima Jewellers shared some wonderful insights on ‘Retail is Detail’ in an interactive session with students on 2nd November 2021. He spoke extensively about the various practical dimensions of modern-day retailing, while also inspiring students to pursue careers in the growing domain.

World AIDS Day programme

A project called “Oppam” - a gamification initiative for creating HIV AIDS awareness- was organised as part of the CSR initiative of SMS, CUSAT in commemorating World AIDS Day on December 1st, 2021. The programme was carried out in association with Kerala State AIDS Control Society (KSACS) and was supported by Aster Medcity.

Basic Life Support awareness programme

An event ‘ Ayushman Bhava’ was hosted as part of the CSR initiatives of SMS, CUSAT with the support of Aster Medcity. This programme that uses Gamification for Basic Life Support Awareness was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) P G Shankaran (Honourable Pro Vice Chancellor, CUSAT) at the Hall of Fame, School of Management Studies, CUSAT in March 2022.

Leadership Talks

Shri C K Podder, HR consulant, corporate trainer and faculty of IISWBM, Kolkata, engaged the students of SMS,CUSAT on a lecture on the topic, Honing leadership skills.
He spoke on the leadership crisis the new world is facing and the need to be better humans to emerge as great leaders. Citing examples of world leaders and anecdotes from the corporate world, he stressed the importance of effective and influential leadership.

Expert talk on Cultural competence

The students and research scholars of SMS were sensitised into the intricacies of cross cultural communication and integration through a lecture on ' Developing Intercultural competencies' delivered by Prof Sylvie Chevrier, Professor of Management, Gustave Eiffel University, France. The two hour interactive session was replete with discussions of various scenarios, do's and dont's in multicultural settings and possibilities for international students for Ph.D. programmes in France.

Learning From The Learned

As part of uplifting the inspiration quotient of the student body during the pandemic, the School conducted an enlightening series of online talks spread over the months of October, November and December 2020. A number of distinguished personalities from various walks of public and corporate life shared their experiences with the enthusiastic student community. While the October series included successful entrepreneurs, the November series was dedicated to Civil Servants and Social entrepreneurs and alumni graced the December series of interactions.
